Couple win $50,000 after buying $4 instant scratch-it

A MARYBOROUGH couple have instantly become $50,000 richer after scratching a big win on a $4 ticket.

The husband and wife, who have chosen to remain anonymous, cried "tears of joy" when they discovered their instant scratch-it win.

"My husband was scratching his Instant Scratch-Its tickets and I'd gone into another room to do the ironing," the excited winning wife explained.

"Then he appeared in the room and his eyes were watering. I initially thought he was trying to be funny and had won $10.

"I took a look at the ticket and saw that he'd scratched $50,000!"

They said the win had been timed really well for their future plans, and they would put it toward their retirement down the track.

The winning ticket was purchased at newsXpress Station Square in Maryborough, which has been a lucky spot for many surprised customers in the last decade and was a finalist in the 2015 Queensland lottery agent of the year.

In less than 10 years, customers from newsXpress have won a total of $400,000 in instant scratch-it tickets, and $3,630,206.85 in the Gold Lotto first division.

Manager Jason Greer said every time a loyal patron won a big prize, it was just as exciting for him and the team.

"[The latest winners] are regular customers and it was such an awesome feeling to hear how excited they were," Jason said.

"It's a pretty lucky spot here. We're due for a big $15 million lotto win now."

Big wins

In January this year, a Maryborough man won $667,992.97 in the Gold Lotto.

In 2012, two Hervey Bay people won $1,432,923.45 in the Gold lotto.
