A new face in town

Hey there,

I'm Marissa and I am the new journalist at the Central and North Burnett Times.

I am 23 years old and I recently graduated from Southern Cross University Lismore with a Bachelor of Media with honours in Journalism.

I love that journalism gives me the opportunity to be creative and also to tell the stories of the people around me.

I grew up on the North Coast of NSW in the town of Grafton.

I am really excited to get to know people in the community and to exploring around the area.

I must admit that I had never heard of this part of Queensland until I got the phone call about my job interview.

I am the oldest of four children so life is always really busy, so in a big way I'm really looking forward to the quiet and some alone time.

One of my biggest hobbies is going to the beach and taking photos.

Although this may be harder to do now as I was really spoilt growing up as I was surrounded by the beaches.

I also spend a lot of time with my dog Reuben and he is liking the fact that we can go explore the area and that he is now an only dog.

Since I arrived in Gayndah I have really felt a sense of community.

Everyone that I have meet has been so welcoming. I love the landscape of the area and how open everything is.

I also really like how the weather here is very similar to Grafton as my biggest fear was going somewhere really cold.

I never would have thought that I would become a Journalist when I was younger.

In fact when I first went to University I was studying law and really went out on a limb to study media and I fell in love with it so much so that I am now studying for my Masters in Communications.

While working for CNB Times I will have a strong focus on the Mundubbera and Eidsvold area and I'm looking forward to getting to know the people in these areas.

Even though that I am based in Gayndah I plan to go to Mundubbera and Eidsvold on a Thursday starting on Thursday July 26.

If you have any stories that you would like me to cover in this area please feel free to get in touch.

My phone number is 07 4161 4205.
