Another Eidsvold bridge closes due to safety risk
ANOTHER bridge in Eidsvold has closed due to safety concerns to the public.
This time it was the bridge over the old railway yards behind the golf club and Liberty service station, which is now barricaded.
For resident Dianne Wilson, who owns property near Alma Vale Rd, the closure will be a big inconvenience as she will now need to loop around the long way to access her home.
"They're fixing other bridges so they should fix this one,” she said.
Mrs Wilson is worried about the effect the bridge closure will have on her vehicle, as using the bridge allowed her to approach her "deep” driveway on an angle.
Approaching from the opposite way means she will bear the full brunt of the dip.
Meanwhile, Valerie Pashalis says it is about time the "terrible” bridge was closed off.
"I won't drive over it, no way,” she said.
President of Eidsvold Gold Club Terry Haupt agrees with Mrs Pashalis' assessment.
"It's absolutely buggered,” he said.
"It's a dangerous thing.
He said the decking was falling apart and it represented a fire hazard.
According to Mr Haupt, the bridge closure won't affect the club too much and council has promised them new signs directing golfers to enter via Crown St, which was upgraded last year.
North Burnett Regional Council released a statement on Tuesday advising of the bridge and access road's closure due to "safety reasons.”
The council invited those seeking further information to phone 1300 696 272 and ask for the works team.
Council has been contacted for comment.
