POLICE have charged a man after an Ipswich house was set on fire on Friday night.

Emergence services were called to a vacant home on Brisbane St at West Ipswich just before 7pm but the wooden structure was unable to be saved.

Police declared the fire suspicious on Saturday morning.

A 26-year-old Goodna man is charged with one count each of arson, enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence and common assault in relation to the incident.

He is due in Ipswich Magistrates Court this morning.
