Art gallery named to remember Shelley

A FRIEND to all, the late Shelley Kelly will be remembered with the naming of a gallery in her honour in the Pat Augustine Cultural Centre at Mt Perry

At a ceremony on Saturday September 23, North Burnett Regional Councillor John Bowen officiated the naming of the gallery while fellow councillor John Zahl opened the first exhibition to be held in the newly named Shelley Kelly Gallery.

This exhibition, titled Jack of all Trade,s is the work of talented Gayndah artist Susie Capewell.

Mrs Capewell captured the hearts of all in attendance when she presented a pastel portrait of Shelley Kelly to the gallery.

Mrs Kelly at the time of her death earlier in the year had her own exhibition titled "My Art Journey”.

In her honour the showing was extended from January through to April.

Mrs Kelly had championed 134 artists exhibitions in the Gallery from 2000-2017.

The Mt Perry Arts Group open its art exhibition with a wine and cheese evening on Friday October 13 at 6pm. The exhibition will continue along until October 21.

Saturday October 14 will be a big day for Mt Perry with the art exhibition plus displays of woodwork, metal work, jewellery and quilts.

Childers and Gin Gin artists will be painting in the park.

The Axeman and Sawers Woodchop featuring the Morris Dingle Memorial Chop will be held from 10am to 5.30pm at the Grand Hotel.

Down at the showgrounds, there is a trail ride at 7am followed by team penning at 8am while the the rodeo gets under way from 6pm.
