Bass hunters unite: Cania Fishing Classic is back
NORTH Burnett anglers have been spoiled for choice recently when it comes to competition fishing, and the good times show no signs of slowing down.
Nominations are now open for the 2019 Cania Fishing Classic, running on the weekend of November 9–10, where anglers of all ages and skill levels will compete for prizes including cash, kayak packages, accommodation, fishing equipment and an aluminium tinny with motor and trailer included.
Cania Dam Fish Stocking association secretary Rowena Clarke said Cania Dam is renowned for its bass fishing and there will be a $500 prize for the seniors’ longest bass and $250 for the juniors’ longest bass.
Other prizes, in both senior and junior, will be given for longest spangled perch, yellow belly, silver perch, gar, jewfish and saratoga.
Nominations cost $35 for seniors, $20 for juniors aged 16 and under, or $80 for a family of two seniors and two juniors.
“All profit from the weekend go into running next year’s competition and stocking the dam with fingerlings for future recreational fishing,” Ms Clarke said.
If nominations are received before Saturday, November 2, anglers go in the early bird draw to win three nights’ accommodation at Brett’s Cania Cottages.
People can nominate at any time, including during the weekend, and all nominees go into the nomination draw to win either a Koastal Kayaks package (juniors) or an aluminium tinny with motor, bimini top and trailer (seniors).
Nominations include camping and hot showers for the weekend.
A canteen and licensed bar, including happy hours and lucky draws, will be run over the weekend, starting Friday night.
Campgrounds open at 7am on Friday
