Better Idea proves to be the best

HORSE RACING: With a great start out of the gate and into the lead, Better Idea was placed in perfect position to take the win.

Ridden by Cecily Eaton, Better Idea maintained his lead for trainer Bob Murray to take home the Gayndah Cup Open.

"He held on until the end and it felt really good to get that win," Murray said.

"We've now had a win at Eidsvold, Monto and Gayndah."

Racing is a family affair for Murray and Better Idea is owned by his two sons Chris and Mark.

Murray puts success down to his horse having a big heart and the will to win, as well as a good relationship with the jockey.

"Cecily always puts a lot of homework into the horses she rides and on Saturday she rode him exactly how we wanted her to," he said.

"I believe the relationship between the jockey and horse plays a big part in success and we always try to pair the same jockeys and horses together."

Murray said identifying what distance his horse performs best at is also a factor, and for Better Idea that's 1400m to 1600m.
