Beyond Blue benefits from memorial day

Bowls: The Biggenden Bowls Club green was a hive of activity on Saturday for the Marshall Memorial Day.

The annual event, in memory of grandfather Jim and father Morrison has raised thousands of dollars for various charities including Rotary Lodge in Bundaberg.

Organiser Scott Marshall said it had been a great social day.

"The weather turned it on,” he said.

"The day was a great way to catch up with all the cousins.”

Mr Marshall said Beyond Blue was chosen this year as it has been a bit of a rough year.

"Along with the mental health problems surrounding the drought, we lost an uncle to cancer,” he said.

At the presentation following play, Biggenden Bowls Club Ladies president Lyn Heaton presented the day's green fees towards the fundraiser.

Looking at the scorecards Mr Marshall jokingly suggested players needed a bit more practice.

As well as Beyond Blue receiving in excess of $1000 all players were a winner as no one went home without a prize thanks to the support of various trophy donors.

Mr Marshall said these included his Nana Marshall and Frankie Leigh Lifestyle.
