Bookies end bets on royal engagement
BOOKIES have suspended bets on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement as speculation grows of a major royal announcement.
The couple have enjoyed a whirlwind romance since meeting last year and it is believed they could reveal Harry has successfully popped the question before the end of the week, The Sun reports
The London Evening Standard reports the BBC has been primed for a major royal announcement in the coming days.
Ladbrokes has also suspended its market on Harry proposing this year and is already tipping the couple to tie the knot in 2019.
Last week, it was announced Markle will no longer appearing in Suits, the US TV legal drama which launched her career.
On Tuesday, she was pictured shopping on the posh King's Road in London and her dogs are reported to be set to be flown to London from her current home in Toronto, Canada.
Prince Harry was last pictured on Monday at a 70th wedding anniversary for the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Punters are wondering who'll pop first - Harry with the question or Kate with the baby!
"As far as we're concerned, it's now a matter of when and not if Harry gets down on one knee this year."
Odds for a 2019 wedding have been set at 6/4, while a 2018 ceremony is being priced at 3/1.
If the engagement is announced it would mark a step away from history for the royal family, as it breaks away from the tradition of only marrying from the aristocracy.
Harry's brother Prince William did the same when he decided to marry Kate Middleton.
Markle first met Harry last year after being introduced by mutual friends.
But it wasn't until November that Kensington Palace confirmed the pairing with a statement, saying the prince was worried for her safety.
Soon after, Harry and Markle - who is four years his senior - were spotted hand-in-hand for the first time, while out on a date in London.
At the time, pals said the actress had "virtually moved in" to Harry's cottage at Kensington Palace with the couple having been "inseparable" for weeks.
Markle has previously been married after tying the knot with film producer Trevor Engelson, but they split after two years.
