Toddler nearly drowns in backyard pool in Gladstone

AN INFANT was pulled out of a backyard pool at Glen Eden with an "altered level of consciousness" after nearly drowning today.

Queensland Ambulance responded to reports of the near drowning at around 1pm today.

When paramedics arrived the infant was stable and according to reports, was pulled out of the pool conscious and breathing.

QAS has taken to the infant to Gladstone Base hospital in a stable condition but the QAS spokeswoman said the infant at suffered from an "altered level of consciousness".

The QAS spokeswoman said doctors would need to check if the infant's chest was clear after swallowing water.
