Burnett talent wins award for Intrust Cup campaign
A RISING rugby league star from Eidsvold is continuing to make a name for himself with Intrust Super Cup team, the Redcliffe Dolphins.
Trai Fuller, who played junior football with the Eidsvold Eagles, was awarded the Tony Obst Trophy for Players’ Player after a stellar sophomore season in which he played 21 of the side’s 25 games, scoring five tries in the process.
He was also a close contender for the Dolphins’ major season award, the Peter Leis Medal, but lost out narrowly to front row Jordan Grant.
Despite his short career, the 21-year-old’s trophy cabinet is already beginning to heave, after winning the Best Player in a Grand Final award in last year’s 36-22 victory over Easts Tigers where he scored two tries.
It was his second consecutive premiership for the Dolphins, after playing a part in the 2017 victory in the grand final over Norths Devils at the U20 level.
Fuller has made the fullback position his own in 2019, despite initially debuting last year as a hooker off the bench.
Aside from his five tries this year, Fuller also made three try assists, 112 tackle breaks and 11 line breaks.
He ran for an average 132m per game and had a tackle efficiency of 76.7 per cent.
The Dolphins went down 20-16 to the Wynnum Manly Seagulls in week one of finals in this year’s Cup.
