Car lovers flock to town

BIGGENDEN'S Ruff 'n' Tuff Charity Car Show proved why it's the town's community event of the year.

Saturday's event was in one visitors' words "absolutely fabulous".

It was so well attended the committee is already looking at extra parking for next year's event.

Secretary Greg Hardy said the support the group received was fantastic.

"When people come from Gracemere and northern New South Wales you must be doing something right," he said.

"We must have had more than 200 cars in the ring.

"There were hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of great quality cars.

"Most had entered the Show and Shine while others were just there to be displayed."

Mr Hardy said the day was just brilliant for the town

"Pity we couldn't do it more often," he said.

"I have been asked about staging another burnout but don't know how that would go with the public.

"It's something for the committee to think about."

The burnouts and the jet truck with its spectacular display drew the onlookers.

He said the jet truck which was an old blitz ate up 150 litres of diesel in each display.

Mr Hardy said burnouts were judged on the amount of white smoke, car control and presentation.

"Burnouts are a bit of a stress relief for drivers being able to take their frustrations out on a concrete pad," he said.

"That's what we are trying to promote - getting the young lads off the streets into a controlled environment."

The money raised will assist two young children who are being cared by their grandparents due to tragic circumstances.
