Carnage at US Open as world's top three sent packing

OVERNIGHT leader Rickie Fowler has slipped off the pace in the second round of the US Open, with four players now sharing the lead.

Englishmen Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Brian Harman and Brooks Koepka are sitting at seven-under, a shot ahead of Fowler, also of the US, who had a one-over-par and is tied with compatriots J.B. Holmes and Jamie Lovemark.

It's not been a good tournament for Australians, with Marc Leishman - who is four shots off the lead after an even-par 72 - set to be the only Aussie to make the cut. Compatriots Jason Day and Adam Scott are both set to have the weekend off.

But world No.3 Day and No.12 Scott weren't the only big names to struggle, with world No.1 Dustin Johnson (four-over) and No.2 Rory McIlroy (five-over) also set to miss out. The cut was projected at one-over.

Day carded a three-over-par 75, leaving him 10-over, while Scott shot a 75 to sit at three-over.

"I was in the hay too much over the last couple of days," Day said.

"It's been the best preparation going into a major, I felt like, in my career, which is playing in majors and knowing what I needed to do to prep for a tournament such as this. It's pretty frustrating."
