Central Queensland musician drops fun new drinking song
A LIGHT-HEARTED antidote to troubling times is the best way to describe Central Queensland musician Camille Trail's new single Little History.
Little History is a song about having a few drinks with your friends and forgetting, for a moment, about everything else.
Trail, who still works on her family's cattle farm in Baralaba, said her dad always wanted her to write a "drinking song".
"So, I sat down with a beer to reminisce about party nights with my friends over the years," she said.
"Whenever I have written music in the past, I have always wanted the lyrics to be about something important, but it was nice with Little History to take a step back and write about something fun.
"This was pre COVID-19 but now I feel like the song is a timely reminder to turn off the news, try to relax and have a little fun."
Produced by triple ARIA winner Shane Nicholson, Little History provides a glimpse into Trail's stylistic range.
She said Little History was such a contrast to her previous singles Humming Chain and Devil's Drink.
She said Humming Chain and Devil's Drink were both sultry, swampy blues influenced country songs with dark lyrical themes, while Little History was a good time country shuffle with a "let's have a drink and forget about it all" message.
"When I grew up, I listened to a lot of different music," she said.
"I listened to country, blues and rock and I really try to combine as much as I can in my songs.
"My album, which will be out early next year, will be really broad with the genres."
The music video for Little History was directed by Duncan Toombs from The Filmery.
"We wanted it to be laidback and fun and portray what it looks like when I let loose with my friends," she said.
"I'm naturally kind of goofy so this time around, after the darkness of Humming Chain and Devil's Drink, I wanted to show another side of me. It's kind of a snapshot of our own little personal history against a backdrop of the worry and uncertainty of the times."
Fans can catch Trail performing at the VDM Festival in Biloela on October 4. She is also confirmed to appear at the rescheduled Savannah In The Round Festival in 2021.
