Childcare 'abuser' had porn: police

A 20-year-old childcare worker charged with the attempted rape of a two-year-old boy in his care last week had child pornography on his personal computer, police said on Monday.

A family friend of the boy allegedly caught the man in the act of sexually abusing the toddler in the back room of the childcare centre in Brisbane's south when she arrived early to pick up the boy on Friday afternoon.

The incident has prompted high-level talks between Queensland Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller and Police Commissioner Ian Stewart, after it emerged the 20-year-old had successfully obtained a blue card clearance to enable him to work with children.

On Monday, Brisbane Regional Crime Command Acting Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said the man had worked at the Durack facility for just six months.

The man was released on bail in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday morning, where he appeared charged with attempted rape, entering a premises with intent to commit and offence and deprivation of liberty.
