Childcare poses huge problem in Burnett
CHILD care is an important issue facing many families in the Burnett region with a lack of services, and the concern is evident.
Families face the angst of locating a child care for their child and sometimes have to wait a few years before they are allowed in the system.
I recently read through the council's report on the problem and found it was one of the biggest issues facing parents, along with the current child care rebate which covers 50% of child care expenses being scrapped by July 2 of 2018.
Despite the new scheme that is aimed at supporting hard working families, other families will be left off worse. I have a six-year-old niece and a one-and-a-half-year-old nephew who live in Brisbane and finding a child care centre is not as difficult for their parents as it is for those living in the regions.
I understand the government is doing its best can to help, but those in rural areas tend to be the forgotten ones.
The issue of child care is not an easy topic to discuss as it's not a one-step solution. It may seem easy to build another centre, however you need the resources and money from the government.
As well as that, you need to have the right amount of children and family daycare carers to make it work.
We'd be interested to hear what you have to say on the issue of childcare. Let us know if it is a problem for you by emailing me on the above address.
