Close call for cattle competition after dry summer

MOUNT Perry Show secretary Judy Fenn said the cattle competitions were on the rocks a month out from the show.

Dry conditions were affecting the animals and few had come forward with nominations.

"We didn't think we would get any cattle because of the drought conditions farmers have been experiencing,” Ms Fenn said.

"Showing cattle can knock them around a bit if things are dry.”

Luckily heavy rain in late March eased conditions and, despite stud cattle being down in numbers, the cattle show drew a crowd.
