Club needs to net a few extras

ISAAC Green is a soccer fanatic.

Asked his favourite player (James Rodriguez), Green comes out with an unbelievable stream of facts, like how Rodriguez can speak five languages and is technically only on loan to team Bayern Munich.

Then there was the trip to Spain, watching famous La Liga teams like Real Madrid duke it out on the big stage.

Green is representative of many young players at Monto Soccer Club, who play in a competition with a team from Moura and two from Biloela, Valleys and Callide.

In fact, Monto takes its soccer so seriously that the most recent North Burnett representative team only had two players who did not also play for Monto Soccer Club.

"Soccer is very popular in Monto, lots of kids love the sports,” club president Tanya Nielson said.

However, she said, several teams are a little light on numbers this season: specifically the U9s, U12s and U14s.

The U9 team as well is looking for a co-coach.

Teams are mixed, Mrs Nielson said, and the club would "love to see a few more girls”, especially in U14.

"The kids are there to have a good time,” Mrs Nielson said.

"We encourage them to have fun and enjoy what they're doing.

"We're not just in it to win it, we are there to play together as a team.”
