Community backlash results in park upgrades

COMMUNITY backlash about a lack of shading in North Burnett parks has forced council to act, with sun safe infrastructure set to be installed.

Several parks and playgrounds in the region will now become sun safe, with upgrades taking place in June.

Construction dates have now been set on four shade sales over playgrounds in Biggenden’s Lions park, and Monto’s Jaycee, Lions and Memorial Parks.

An online petition circled in 2019 demanded the council act on community feedback about the “excruciatingly hot” summer days rendering the park useless for families.

“As a mum it’s not ideal for my kids, but also Monto needs more people, as do all the towns in North Burnett, but if the facilities are not here for people to enjoy, what’s bringing people to Monto?” Mrs Baker said.

“If you’re a parent … (and) can’t go to the playground, it’s not a healthy place to be.”
