Coraki couple killed in head-on crash in Darwin

FAMILY and friends are mourning the loss of a young Coraki couple who died in a car crash in the Northern Territory at the weekend.

Ryan Battese, 27, and his partner Tamara Mavir, 23, were travelling outbound from Darwin when their car collided with a bus near the Winnellie industrial estate at about 4.40am Saturday morning.

Scott Eccles, 42, was also in the car which police say lost control and crashed side-into the front of the bus.

All three occupants died and the driver of the bus received minor injuries.

In a memorial fund set up to help the family with funeral costs, family friend Rachael Yarnold said Tamara had recently turned 23 and moved to Darwin with her partner Ryan to search for work and build a happy and long future together.

"She was a vibrant and happy young woman with a smile that brightened the room and an unimaginable zest for life," she said.

"Tamara, the eldest of six children was a very social and family orientated person who was always showing love and affection to those around her.

"Tamara is the loving sister of Bianca, Taylor, Maddison, Mackenzie and Cooper and beautiful daughter of Leanne and Peter."

The crash which claimed three lives has been described as one of the worst in the state.

"All three lives were lost in one of the worst road crashes Darwin emergency services workers have seen." the NT News reported.

It's understood a funeral will be held for the couple next week.
