Council helps keep heroes in the air

NORTH Burnett Regional Council has maintained its support of a lifesaving service.

The council donated a $10,000 fuel card to RACQ LifeFlight Rescue on Thursday last week to help save more lives in the North Burnett region.

Mayor Rachel Chambers said the donation was a continuation of five years of support.

"North Burnett Regional Council is pleased to have supported this priceless service since 2012 by means of an annual $10,000 donation,” Cr Chambers said.

She said the fuel card would go towards improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness for the service.

"This year we have given LifeFlight a fuel card to increase the value of the service within the total donation of $10,000, which will enable them to access fuel at our cost price from the Gayndah Aerodrome, which in turn will increase the level of serviceability in bad weather in the area,” Cr Chambers said.

"We thank LifeFlight for their service in our area.”

RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Bundaberg pilot Rowan Scholes routinely flies into Gayndah and knows the council's donation will help to save even more lives in the region.

"The $10,000 fuel donation from the North Burnett Regional Council will assist our service to the area from all LifeFlight bases, particularly during bad weather,” Mr Scholes said.

Since the beginning of the year, RACQ LifeFlight Rescue has flown 61 missions to the North Burnett region, landing at the scene of motor vehicle crashes, near-drowning incidents and transferring patients to specialist care hospitals, where injuries can receive lifesaving treatment sooner.
