Counting continues in North Burnett election

MAYORAL candidates for the North Burnett Regional Council will find out on March 29 whether they have been elected to the region's top job.

With 70% of the vote counted on March 22, Rachel Chambers leads incumbent Mayor Don Waugh by 94 votes.

Mrs Chambers had 1711 votes - 34.93% t of the vote, while Mr Waugh had 1,617 votes - 33.01%.

Monto real estate agent Brett Allen had 816 votes at 16.66%, while Peter Strohfeldt was in fourth place with 755 votes, or 15.41%.

The Electoral Commission of Queensland gives postal votes 10 days to arrive after the election before they start counting preferences, so the position of mayor and councillors will be officially declared sometime after 6pm on Tuesday, March 29.
