Art Attack auction to raise funds for gallery

ARTWORKS by 13 Gayndah business people will be auctioned off at Friday night's Art Attack.

A local artist mentors each nominated person to produce an artwork for the Gayndah Art Gallery's fundraiser.

Guardian Pharmacy owner Graham Rowles said he appreciated the skill and experience of his mentor, Rob Miller.

"We sat down and we chose something suitable for my art level," Mr Rowles said.

"My skill level was one step above paint-by- numbers.

"I like the aquatic theme, but Rob guided me elsewhere."

Describing Mr Miller as a "sensational mentor", Mr Rowles said he learnt how to first sketch his painting of a frog hanging off a lily-pad, and then to choose and apply paint because colour-blindness was an added challenge.

Mr Rowles said Friday night's auction was a fun way to involve the community and support the Gayndah Art Gallery.

The first Art Attack, held in 2012, raised $6000. Funds from this event will go towards art gallery projects such as framing artworks gifted to Gayndah by sister city Zonhoven in Belgium.

At this year's launch, 2012 participant Annemaree McGilvery said that with local mentors, nobody was daunted.

Gayndah Art Gallery hosts Art Attack from 7pm on Friday, with free entry, and drinks available at the bar.
