Cyclist arrested for riding his bike drunk

A 30-YEAR-old Redland Bay man was arrested in Mackay after he was seen riding his pushbike in the middle of the road abusing motorists.

Police said the incident occured on the intersection of River St and Sydney St, Mackay at about 2pm on December 16.

Police officers were in their vehicle when they saw the man riding his bike along the middle of the road causing interference to motorists and also being verbally abusive to motorists as they overtook him.

He attempted to ride away from police and also leave the area on foot.  

He was arrested on the roadside and later charged with riding a bicycle while dunk and also obstructing police.

He will appear at the Mackay Magistrates Court on January 13, 2016.

Officers may stop any cyclist whom they believe is riding while under the influence and can arrest that person.
