Dairy festival kicks off with a wet start
DESPITE a wet start which lead to an event being cancelled, the Monto Dairy Festival is now well and truly under way.
Dairy festival president Tyrone O'Reilly said the festival kicked off on Saturday with a messy church event.
"It went really well," Mr O'Reilly said.
"Ninety people walked through the door."
He said the picnic day at Cania Dam on the Sunday had to be cancelled due to the wet weather.
"We just thought no one would come in the rain," he said.
"We still had a princess meeting up there though."
On Monday night, the princesses received their sashes at a cheese soiree which was attended by about 100 people.
"Everyone liked the food," Mr O'Reilly said.
"We've had a lot of good comments.
"The cow has been running riot through the events and the streets this morning, everyone loves the cow, our mascot.
"It's sticking the festival in people's mind.
"They go, oh that's right, and with the dairy maid going around with the cow, we can let people know."
The festival continues all week.
