DECISION MADE: Council discusses changing show holiday dates
NORTH Burnett Regional Council has opted to leave the region's show days as is for 2021, but have opened the door for the days to be potentially changed.
The council was asked to approve the self nominated show day holidays chosen for each of the six town's show societies in the North Burnett.
Documents stated these holidays were appointed in respect of an annual agricultural, horticultural, or industrial show that has a significance to a particular district.
This year's shows were either cancelled in full, or held virtually such as the Mundubbera Show.
The Monto Show went ahead with several events such as its pumpkin growing and carcass competitions, but observed social distancing requirements to meet strict government guidelines.
Show society secretaries from Biggenden, Eidsvold, Gayndah, Mt Perry, and Monto submitted August 9, while Mundubbera kept its on May 7.
Discussion ensued between councillors on whether it was appropriate to bring all show holidays to the same date.
Councillors Susan Payne and Dael Giddins said more community consultations should be held next year for show holidays, in an effort to make the region more cohesive on one public holiday.
The motion was passed unanimously.
Show days for each town have been proposed for next year, which are subject to change if COVID-19 is still prevalent moving in 2021.
These dates included:
- Gayndah: Saturday April 10
- Mt Perry: Saturday April 17
- Eidsvold: Sunday May 2
- Mundubbera: Friday May 7 - Saturday May 8
- Biggenden: Saturday May 15 - Sunday May 16
- Monto: Saturday May 22 - Sunday May - 23
