Stanthorpe Campdraft rounds out another winner
CAMPDRAFTING: Stanthorpe's own campdraft is done and dusted for another year with over 180 riders taking part over the weekend.
Organisers were pleased with the turn out and said a fantastic weekend was had by all at the 2016 Supersteel Stanthorpe Campdraft.
Campdraft subcommittee secretary Paula Boatfield said it was a big year for the event.
"The unseasonal warm weather held off the frosts that were so prevalent last year, and provided two days of perfect campdrafting weather," she said.
"This year we also welcome new sponsor Supersteel Australia as naming rights sponsor of our 2016 campdraft."
Altogether the committee coordinated about 400 horses and up to 900 head of cattle over the weekend.
The big T&G Dwan Supafloats Open Draft saw a total of 71 competitors and one special repeat winner.
Campdrafter Ben Tapp took an impressive victory, off the back of his Gold Cup win in Warwick in October.
Tapp, from the Glen, won on Cool Dust, with Jess Sammon from Beaudesert taking equal second on Golden Duck and Jack, and local rider Mick Griffiths on Sam.
The highest cut-out winner was Anna Hudson from Tenterfield on Little Red Rocket with a score of 23.
Boatfield said Friday's 3-cow competition and Mother's Day Mum's Run were very well received and the whole event was enjoyed by everyone.
"The committee would like to thank our regular and new sponsors and supporters of our annual draft and the wealth of volunteers who are only too happy to lend a hand on the day. We were also extremely grateful for Jason Costanzo's delicious dinner on the Saturday night and the team from the Stanthorpe Agricultural Society's catering subcommittee and volunteers who helped make the Saturday night the success it was," she said.
"Thank you everyone for helping us host our increasingly popular draft here in Stanthorpe."
