Drone use likely to take off
THE Civil Aviation Safety Authority has been slammed over new regulations that allow unlicensed individuals and organisations to fly commercial drones with a maximum take-off weight of less than 2kg.
The new laws, which come into force today, also allow landholders to operate drones of up to 25kg on their properties without the need for approvals.
Calling for the laws to be scrapped, Australian Federation of Air Pilots president David Booth said drones could cause a huge amount of damage if they hit a helicopter's tail rotor or flew into a plane engine.
