SHOOTING: More than 200 novices tested out their shooting skills when the Dunga Derby Rally for a Cause made a scheduled stop at the Monto Rifle Club on Saturday.
The Dunga Derby is an annual fundraising event with people taking part in a four-day car rally that starts and finishes in Hervey Bay.
As part of this year's rally participants visited the Monto Rifle Club to take part in the Dunga Derby Chicken Challenge.
Rifle Club secretary Helen Schimke said 54 cars and 205 people arrived at 9.30am on Saturday with a small band of rifle club members on hand to put the visitors to the test.
Schimke said the members did their best to welcome the visitors and show them the ropes.
"With the majority of the visitors never having used a rifle before, it was great to to offer them experience of using a rifle in a safe and controlled environment,” she said.
The Rally for a Cause is a community charity actively supporting Fraser Coast families and individuals affected by life-threatening medical conditions or whose lives have been disrupted by detrimental circumstances beyond their control.
Monto was one of the last stops for the Dunga Derby Rally participants, who wrapped up their third successful rally on Sunday afternoon, finishing up at the Seafront Oval on the Fraser Coast.
Organisers said this year's rally had helped raise more than $250,000 for charity.
