Dusty on 'creepy' Bruce: 'He just popped up out of nowhere'

DUSTIN Martin has revealed he wasn't exactly comfortable with Bruce McAvaney's hard tag at the Brownlow Medal count on Monday night.

McAvaney's hovering presence around the Tigers' 2017 Brownlow medallist was a huge talking point on Thursday night with the footy programs on Channel 7 and Channel 9 both giving the legendary footy caller grief.

Martin jokingly told The Footy Show he would have given McAvaney a trademark "don't argue" if he'd had a couple of drinks earlier in the evening.

In a loaded question to the Tigers superstar, Sam Newman asked how he handled "spooky" and "creepy" McAvaney throughout the night where he was interviewed and toasted by McAvaney on the Brownlow stage inside the Crown Casino.

"Now, during the Brownlow evening, Bruce, he became a bit spooky and a bit creepy, Bruce," Newman said.

"He was hanging on to you like a limpet."

Fellow Footy Show Host Rebecca Maddern labelled McAvaney "Dickey Knee" from Hey, Hey It's Saturday.

Martin admitted McAvaney gave him a fright.

"He just popped up out of nowhere," Martin said.

"He gave me a bit of a fright. It was quite scary.

"To be honest I didn't know what was going on."

Returning Footy Show host Eddie McGuire then told Martin he should have used his famous fend on the Seven star.

Martin's response was simple enough.

"I probably would have if I was pissed," he said.
