Heavy downpour sparks electrical drama in city

UPDATE: Ergon Energy crews have declared a scene safe after last night shutting down power in a CBD street.

Emergency crews left the scene at Neil St on between Herries and James Sts at 7.30pm. They had attended to deal with sparking power lines.

There were reports of electrical sparks across Toowoomba last night as a downpour of rain swept over the city.

EARLIER: Emergency services have shut down a Toowoomba CBD street over concerns with electrical infrastructure in the area.

Police and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services closed Neil St between the intersection of Herries and James Sts after reports of power lines sparking about 6.40pm.

It came shortly a heavy downpour in the Toowoomba CBD.

Ergon Energy crews are on scene and motorists are being turned away by authorities. Homes are near where the main activity is located.
