Famous Dallys Models to be taken over by Chic Group
IT IS the end of an era for one of Brisbane's longest-standing and best-known businesses, with the Chic Group purchasing Dallys Models.
For 67 years, Australia's first modelling agency, founded and owned by etiquette expert June Dally-Watkins, has helped launch the careers of some of the country's best-known faces, including household names Miranda Kerr and Samantha Harris.
Ms Dally-Watkins was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1993 for her contribution to business, and until the sale had remained actively involved in the company.
Chic Group co-owner and former model Ursula Hufnagl began her career with Ms Dally-Watkins, and said Chic had cemented its place as one of the world's most respected modelling agencies.
"It is an honour to be able to continue the fantastic work of an icon such as June Dally-Watkins," she said. "The team at Chic is excited to be launching our successful business model in Queensland, where many of our most successful models were first discovered."
Dallys Models director Jodie Bache-McLean will remain at the helm of the Chic Group Queensland office, and said it was an exciting time for the business.
"We have to be prepared to make changes and evolve, it's about adapting so the business can succeed for another 67 years," she said. "This will take what we offer to another level.
"While Dallys is a big name here, we haven't always had a lot of exposure internationally.
"Chic is recognised all over the world, and that is one of the reasons we are looking forward to it."
Ms Dally-Watkins said she was confident Ms Hufnagl, Ms Bache-McLean and the team at Chic Group would do an excellent job in upholding her values and continuing her success.
Though the modelling agency will be rebranded under the Chic banner, the JDW education and training business will remain with its current name.
