Fireys battle blaze after car went up in flames

Fire crews rushed to the Bruce Highway on Thursday night after a car went up in flames.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews were called to the Johnston Rd exit on the highway at Coochin Creek about 6.35pm.

She said the first truck arrived on scene about 6.55pm and battled the fire until crews left the highway about 7.40pm.

The fire didn't spread onto the grass and no one was injured in the blaze.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said officers received "multiple calls" about the fire, which was likely caused by a mechanical failure as the fire started in the engine bay.
