Floral, fuchsia and fur finery

THE crowd that cheered on their tipped horses at Saturday's Gayndah Cup was a sea of winter hues as patrons were called to don a burst of colour.

But for those interested in impressing in the Fashions on the Field competition, colour wasn't their only style guide.

"Although the theme was Burst of Colour, which I was looking for, this is still winter racing so those who fit that dress code stood out the most,” Fashions on the Field judge Narelle Emmerton said.

A milliner by trade, it was no surprise when Kingaroy's Verelle O'Shanesy stole the show with her perfectly curated outfit.

Winning the title of Mare, Ms O'Shanesy wore different textures and pops of fuchsia in her dress, fascinator and gloves.

"She was very much following the Winter style guide and she looked very classy,” Mrs Emmerton said.

"The pinks, greys and blacks are really on trend and her shawl was a lovely touch.”

Mrs Emmerton said the Mare category winner wasn't the only one who opted for a statement shawl.

"Both of the ladies had a fur shawl which is very in at the moment in winter racing attire,” she said.

"That's what drew me to them as well as the colours.”

A beautiful headpiece is what had Filly winner Lily Voss grabbing gazes.

And for the men, dressing to the nines with a suit coat and tie won Corey Johanson and Blake Augustine the title of Stallion and Colt respectively.

"I just dressed well because that's what the races call for but actually entering Fashions on the Field was a spur of the moment decision,” Mr Augustine said.

"Matty Ulcoq is usually the favourite so I was pretty happy to snatch the title and get one on him,” Mr Augustine said.
