LNP claims another bikie campaigned for Wellington

THE Queensland Opposition has claimed a second bikie campaigned for Sunshine Coast independent Peter Wellington's re-election.

Mr Wellington was criticised earlier this month after a man who volunteered for his election campaign, Michael Smith, was convicted of drug trafficking.

Shadow attorney-general Ian Walker tabled pictures to parliament of a group of Mr Wellington's supporters wearing "Win With Peter Wellington" shirts.

He asked Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath if the man standing next to Mr Smith in the photos was bikie Paul Lansdowne.

Mr Walker said Mr Lansdowne had convictions for possessing drugs and illegal weapons when the photo was taken.

Ms D'Ath called the tabled pictures a "stunt" but would ask police for confirmation.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced the government intends to repeal the VLAD bikie laws and replace them with new laws on serious organised crime.

Before Question Time Mr Wellington said he would not submit to LNP demands for him to stand aside during the debate on the laws and intended to vote on the bill if needed.

As Speaker Mr Wellington can cast the deciding vote in the case of a tie.

"At the outset, I wish to advise that if my vote is required, I will vote," he told parliament.

"To claim I stand up for criminals is a nonsense.

"At the time Mike Smith came to see me he told me he had no criminal convictions."

He did not mention Mr Lansdowne and would not comment on Tuesday.
