Former Monto resident reaches 100 years
FORMER long-term Monto resident Grace Rawlins has celebrated the milestone achievement of celebrating her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
Grace lived in Monto with her family until they moved to Brisbane when she was 19 years old, returning to Monto at the age of 24 to begin her married life with husband Kenneth Rawlins, a well-known businessman in the area.
Grace and Kenneth had three children, Wade, Rita and Brett, who all attended local schools.
The couple spent the next 50 years living at 'Wade Ridge', the house Kenneth built on Edison St in Monto.
Kenneth passed away in the early 1990s and Grace moved to Brisbane, where she now lives in a garden apartment in Ashgrove and still maintains good health.
A passion for gardening for much of her life led Grace to win the championship garden prize several times.
To celebrate her milestone birthday, the centenarian travelled down to Sydney, where most of her family now lives.
