Freak hail storm hits Monto

A FREAK hail storm has hit Monto, leaving streets and farms looking like a winter wonderland.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Dean Narramore said a number of thunderstorms developed over the Wide Bay and Burnett this afternoon.

"One of the stronger storms moves over Monto at about 2pm this afternoon," he said.

"There was a lot of very small hail."

He said the hail was likely to have been too small to cause major damage.

"Those storms have moved to the coast now."
