Future of major North Burnett festival in doubt

THERE is a question mark over the future of next year’s biennial Biggenden Rose Festival.

Last Tuesday night only four attended the second planning meeting for the 2020 festival.

Moira Thompson said the inability to form a Rose Festival committee means the event cannot be held.

“While this is disappointing, I think that, given the lack of interest, the drought, the decline in population from those “rose festival days”, it is best the event is postponed,” she said.

“Our country show, Christmas fair, and other regular small events seem to provide enough entertainment.”

Biggenden Apex Club president Phil Sharps said the club decided to withdraw their involvement with the Rose Festival.

‘It’s too big a job for such a small club,” he said.
