Gang leader’s weird jailbreak disguise

A BRAZILLIAN gang leader tried to escape a high-security prison by dressing up as his teenage daughter - even planning to leave her behind in jail.

Clauvino da Silva, 42, pretended to be a 19-year-old girl with smooth skin, long black hair and a cute pink T-shirt with doughnuts and love hearts on Saturday in an attempt to walk out of the front door of Rio's Gericinó prison.

The convicted drug dealer's amazing get-up was so convincing prison staff only stopped him at the end of visiting time because he started acting too nervously, according to authorities.

Da Silva, known as "Shorty," was filmed standing awkwardly with his hands behind his back as his wild costume was slowly exposed, starting with officials removing his glasses and a long black wig.

The tattooed inmate then removed his shirt, showing a black bra underneath - and an amazing silicon mask giving him a smooth, teenage complexion.

Now only wearing tight jeans, he finally pulled off the mask, showing short-cropped hair and wrinkles and features befitting a 42-year-old man.

The inmate had planned to leave his daughter inside the jail in the western part of Rio de Janeiro, officials say. Police are looking into her possible role as an accomplice.

Another woman who is pregnant and able to avoid being searched is also being probed for potentially smuggling in the outfit, according to local reports.

Authorities say da Silva was part of the leadership of the Red Command, one of the most powerful criminal groups in Brazil that controlled drug trafficking in a large part of Rio.

After the failed escape bid, da Silva was transferred to a special unit of a maximum-security prison and will face disciplinary sanctions, officials said.
