Gayndah hits its hottest February day ever
GAYNDAH locals swarmed the swimming pool yesterday afternoon as the town's temperature soared to a record 42.7°C, Gayndah's hottest February day ever recorded.
Around 130 flushed residents, including 40 Learn2Swim students, came through the local swimming pool gates.
Considering Gayndah's population of 2000, that's a large chunk.
"We were really busy yesterday, in fact it's been like that all week," pool manger Amy Golchert said.
"All weekend the pool was filled with people, which we expected, but Monday was insane and weekdays are usually a bit quieter."
A Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson said the temperature exceeded the previous record of 41.9°C, reached in February of 2017.
Gayndah is expected to swelter into next week as forecast temperatures remain high.
