Girls, 14 and 15, allegedly raped at Toowoomba home
ONE man has been charged and another is wanted by police after the alleged rape of two teenage girls in Toowoomba.
Police are investigating after two girls, aged 14 and 15, were allegedly raped at a Toowoomba home by two men with whom they left a party with at the weekend.
The two girls had been dropped off at a party in Toowoomba at the weekend before they left in the company of two men.
Police claim they had gone with the men willingly back to their Toowoomba home where they allege they were sexually assaulted.
The two girls filed the complaints with police who began investigating, locating one of the alleged offenders who has since been charged.
The 20-year-old is due in court this morning.
His alleged co-offender remains outstanding.
A third unrelated complaint of rape registered with police over the weekend had since been withdrawn.
Darling Downs Detective Inspector Dave Isherwood said there had been a slight increase in the number of sexual assaults reported in Toowoomba in the past six months.
"Sexual assault rates are very marginally up at the moment but there hasn't been a massive increase," he said.
"It is on par with the same time last year."
Det. Insp. Isherwood said the allegations were serious and police were treating them as such, and added personal safety was a vital concern for all residents.
"People have got to be cautious regardless of whether they know the people or not," he said.
"Personal safety is paramount and when you go to a party you must ensure you are as safe as possible."
