Gold Coast mayor: Keep foot on bikies' throats

GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate has again warned the Palaszczuk government not to wind back the current anti-bikie legislation, which was passed in response to the vicious brawl between rival gangs in Broadbeach on September 27, 2013.

Speaking at the Gold Coast City Council meeting at Surfers Paradise on Tuesday, Cr Tate said it would be a mistake to take the pressure off bikie gangs.

"As far as going light on criminal gangs go, we want to keep the foot on their throat," Cr Tate said.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate has again warned the Palaszczuk government not to wind back the current anti-bikie legislation, which was spawned by the vicious brawl between rival gangs in Broadbeach on September 27, 2013.

"And make sure that if they want to be involved in any criminal activities, do it on the other side of the border," he said.

The Palasczczuk government was to receive a report on December 18, on their plans to wind back elements of the anti-bikie legislation, the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment (VLAD) laws. That review has now been delayed until March 31 2016 after the local government elections.
