Great White spotted near beach

UPDATE 12.40PM: Surf Lifesaving Queensland have confirmed there have been no shark sightings at the patrolled beach at Woorim.

A spokesman for Surf Lifesaving Queensland was unable to comment on non-patrolled beaches. 

The SLSQ spokesman said Woorim Beach hasn't closed today and no shark sightings have been logged by the lifeguards.

EARLIER: BEACHGOERS are being warned to stay out of the water after a shark was spotted swimming close to shore.

The shark, believed to be a Great White, was spotted on Bribie Island in the Pumicestone Passage.

It was seen near the South Esplanade end of the passage at Bongaree.

Residents have taken to Facebook to warn others to stay out of the water.

Surf Lifesaving Queensland have been made aware of the sighting and are currently investigating reports.
