Happy birth-neigh as Hilda turns 106
MUNDUBBERA Hospital resident Hilda Payne has received a special visitor on her 106th birthday: Shandy the small horse.
Joined by son Lindsay and grandson Liam, the visit was the perfect present for a lady with a lifelong love of horses, which saw her found the Mundubbera and Eidsvold horse and pony clubs.
Director of nursing Jan-Adele Hotz said the Valentine's Day visit was special for all the residents.
"They come to life when they see the animals,” she said.
The hospital also keeps chickens to keep the residents company and it's not uncommon to see other farm animals visit the hospital.
"Our staff go above and beyond for our residents and this is just one way we do that,” Mrs Hotz said.
Mrs Payne is a beloved figure in the towns of Eidsvold and Mundubbera.
Not only did she found the horse and pony clubs, but she also founded the Mundubbera Historical Society, serving as president of 25 years, was a president of CWA Eidsvold and was an active member of Church of England Eidsvold.
She has three sons, Mervyn, Lindsay and John.
