Heat rises again on embattled Mal Brough in Parliament

UNDER-fire Fisher MP Mal Brough has endured another tough day in Federal Parliament.

His party was yesterday forced to quash two censure motions against Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull for his appointment of Mr Brough to the role of Special Minister of State given the current saga engulfing Mr Brough over his role in the Slipper diaries affair.

LNP members did not defend Mr Brough in Parliament yesterday and LNP Queensland state president Gary Spence also refused to make any comment as to whether the branch held concerns over the effects of the ongoing controversy.

The latest moves by the Opposition came as Mr Brough gave a qualified apology to the House for "unwittingly" adding to confusion over the issue, after telling Parliament on Tuesday that the 60 Minutes interview aired about the Ashby-Slipper scandal had not shown the full question, when Mr Brough appeared to admit to asking James Ashby to obtain the diary.

Mr Spence said it was something the Prime Minister would deal with and would not be making comment on whether or not there were fears the drama could be damaging the LNP brand.

Meanwhile, University of the Sunshine Coast politics lecturer Bronwyn Stevens said she thought the time was drawing near for the matter to be resolved.

"I think it is getting very damaging," Ms Stevens said.

"It's just not a good look for the Government."

Ms Stevens said she felt for Prime Minister Turnbull, having inherited the controversy, but noted he may feel some loyalty to the Fisher MP.

"Obviously, Brough was involved quite heavily in getting the numbers, so Turnbull will feel some loyalty to Brough," Ms Stevens said.

"It's a bonus for the Opposition."
