Holy crab! Man finds a dead crocodile in his crab pot

A CRABBING enthusiast got quite a shock on Tuesday after finding a dead crocodile in his crab pot near Gavial Creek.

It is believed the reptile drowned after it became stuck in the pot.

A spokesperson from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection said the incident was not an uncommon occurrence.

"It is not uncommon for juvenile crocodiles to be caught in crab pots. It is one of the hazards in an area that is known as a popular fishing spot," they said.

"Crocodiles do become more active in the warmer weather and this can lead to more sightings.

"It is very important that all crocodile sightings are reported to EHP as soon as possible."
