‘Holy moly’: Fighter jets roar over Sunshine Coast

Several Coast residents rushed outside their homes to catch a glimpse of fighter jets darting across the region on Friday.

Eight F/A-18F Super Hornets from the No. 1 Squadron flew over the Coast on their way home from the RAAF Base in Townsville to the Amberley base.

"The squadron had been in Townsville for Exercise Nigrum Pugio - a week long Australian Defence Force Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) requalification activity held at the Townsville Field Training Area," a Defence spokesman said.

He said the squadron had no further flying scheduled in the region on Friday or over the weekend.

Residents took to social media to express both their fear and excitement of the loud jets flying overhead.

"It frightened the life out of me," one wrote on a community board.

"I only saw one when I ran outside but holy moly, that's crazy," another said.
