Hour long commotion was a 'zero event': Mackay police

EMERGENCY services were called to a residence in Rural View after a "suspicious" gas bottle was reported to police.

Mackay Northern Beaches Senior Sergeant Adrian Rieck said emergency services were called to the Bedwell Court home Wednesday afternoon, after the neighbour saw what they thought was a suspicious gas bottle leaking.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were on scene and conducted "atmospheric testing" but found no significant reading.

As a precaution, police cordoned off the street, while QFES conducted tests.

The road being blocked off sparked the imagination of many on social media with people trying to guess the reason for the commotion.

Some said gas leak, others said drug lab bust.

Snr Sgt Rieck said although it looked quite dramatic, it really wasn't calling the hour long commotion a "zero event".

He said although the reports turned out to be nothing, he praised the neighbour for reporting the gas bottle as those events can happen, he said.
