How you can best prepare for storm season
WITH the storm season fast approaching, North Burnett SES Local Controller Brian Lowe hopes to see residents aware of the dangers.
"A lot of storm preparedness is common sense thinking really. Things like loose furniture outside is actually a big issue along with the well-known fallen tress,” Mr Lowe said.
"The thing is unless the fallen tree is blocking access to your property then it's unfortunately not an SES issue.
"But if it's across your driveway we cut it into pieces to give you access.”
Mr Lowe said it was a common misconception about fallen trees.
"Trees over public roads, highways and that sort of thing are normally for council to deal with but in the North Burnett we do assist where we can,” he said.
"People should also be aware that fallen trees can bring down power lines, so everyone needs to be extra careful around fallen trees and branches.”
SES preparations were completed last month after after the final exercise of
"We are pretty well organised this year, our equipment is fully serviced and we have increased our stocks of tarps, ropes and plastic sheeting,” Mr Lowe said.
"We assist with leaking roofs and will tarp them up but that is only temporary.
"It's up to the land owner to repair the roof after the storm has gone but we keep the tarps with them until then.
"Also, we are always looking for new members and volunteers to help out.”
