Hunt for final clues to solve tragic deaths of dad and son

CAIRNS police have asked the public to help piece together the events that led to the deaths of Rossville resident Troy Harvey and his four-year-old son Koah.

The bodies of Mr Harvey, 45, and Koah, were found at a River Rd property in Rossville, south of Cooktown, on Friday morning.

"A considerable amount of time was spent trying to revive the four year old but he was pronounced dead at the scene," Detective Inspector Jason Smith said.

"We are trying to put together the pieces to determine how this horrific event could have occurred.

"I am calling on anyone who knows Troy Harvey, who might have had contact with Mr Harvey, in the week before September 4.

"It is vital that we obtain information as to his movements and state of mind."

The investigation will be referred to the state coroner to determine how the pair died.

"In that regard I'm calling on anyone in the community to let us know what they know about Mr Harvey's movements and what he may have said to them in the weeks leading up to September 4," Det Insp Smith said.

Two crime scenes were established at the property and another local residence and both were examined as part of investigations which involved multiple detectives, scenes of crime and scientific officers.

"The tragic events of September 4 did not occur in a bubble," Det Insp Smith said.

"There would have been a lead up; associates of Mr Harvey may have seen something that would indicate this may have been going to happen.

"We need to speak to these people so we know exactly what the circumstances are and present a full brief to the coroner."

"In particular police wish to speak to the driver of a silver vehicle that attended Mr Harvey's address in River Road on the morning of Friday, September 4, 2020."

The night prior to the deaths, Koah's mother, 36 year-old Natsuko Kurihara, told police she had been assaulted by Mr Harvey.

"At the time the child was in the custody of his mother," Det Insp Smith said.

He said the 36-year-old and Mr Harvey were known to each other and had previously had a romantic relationship.

Her residence was one of the two crime scenes established by police.
